About Thalia Dance
Thalia Dance is a Fat Chance Belly Dance® Style Dance Group based in the Chicago suburbs. Four dance students met through a mutual studio and began to perform together under a different name. Thalia Dance officially began in early 2021. Three members (Yarina, Kala, and Candace) had been wanting to form a group for a while, and Amy came along with a performance opportunity for a virtual renaissance faire, and the group was ready to go!
Why Thalia?
Thalia is the Greek Muse of Poetry and Comedy, one of the Three Graces, and a symbol of Joy and Abundance. We hope you sense these as we feel them while dancing.

Meet Yarina
I'm originally from Berkeley, CA. I've been doing FCBD® Style for about 6 years now. I do all sorts of other dance styles too. I teach Asian religious traditions at Loyola University Chicago and I'm an avid tennis player.
Meet Amy
I'm in the West Chicago suburbs, originally from Central IL. I've been dancing my whole life across nearly every genre, with 8 years of various belly dance styles and 3 years of FCBD® Style under my belt. I work in special education, enjoy acting in theatrical productions, and am a published and award-winning cosplayer.

Meet Kala
I lived in Iowa, Texas, California and Colorado before settling in Illinois in my teens. I’ve been doing FCBD® Style for five years. Other things I love doing- gardening, miniatures, and being a great grandma.
Meet Candace
I am from the Chicago area. I started taking lessons in FCBD® style dance 6 years ago. My highlight was dancing at the original studio in San Francisco with the creator of the style before the studio moved. I enjoy the friendships I have made as much as dancing. And I do love the skirts! I am the mother of a teenage son and director of marketing for a food serve equipment dealer.
